Amelia Dronehart Launches New Website and Opens Membership to Women in the Drone Industry

New website marks the next chapter for the organization, with membership now open and free for a limited time

August 17, 2026 — Amelia Dronehart, a community dedicated to supporting and encouraging women across the drone industry, today announced the launch of its new website and the opening of membership to women around the world.

The website marks the beginning of a new chapter for Amelia Dronehart, bringing together a growing community focused on education, professional development, representation, connection, and opportunity within the rapidly evolving drone industry.

Membership is currently free for a limited time, giving women interested in drones and the broader UAS industry an opportunity to join the community, create a profile, connect with other members, and stay informed about upcoming events, opportunities, and educational resources.

“Amelia Dronehart has always been about the people,” said Kara Murphy, Amelia Dronehart’s Executive Director. “The website gives us a place to bring those people together, but it also gives us an opportunity to build something for the women who are just discovering this industry and wondering where they fit into it.”

Building on a Legacy

Amelia Dronehart was founded by Rhianna Lakin more than a decade ago, when the commercial drone industry was still in its early stages. The organization provided a place for women interested in drones to connect, share their experiences, and encourage one another at a time when the industry was considerably smaller and less established.

Today, Amelia Dronehart is building on that foundation with a board of directors and advisors representing a range of experience across the UAS industry, education, technology, media, and professional development.

The organization is intentionally collaborative, working alongside other groups and individuals already contributing to the advancement of women in the industry.

Sharon Rossmark, CEO of Women and Drones, serves as an advisor to Amelia Dronehart. Several respected leaders from the Women and Drones community also contribute to Amelia Dronehart’s leadership, including legal expert Loretta Alkalay and Renee Welch of WeRobotics, who serve on the organization’s Advisory Board and Board of Directors.

“We aren’t here to compete with other organizations,” said Murphy. “There is plenty of room for all of us. When women share knowledge, make introductions, open doors, and encourage each other, the entire industry benefits. Our goal is to help more women see themselves as part of this industry and give them the support to pursue that possibility.”

Following the website launch, Amelia Dronehart will make its presence known at Commercial UAV Expo in Las Vegas, September 1–3, 2026.

Three members of the organization’s board of directors will participate in the conference’s educational programming, including sessions focused on drone applications, technology, and the future UAS workforce.

Attendees can also connect with Amelia Dronehart at the Women and Drones booth (#340) and in the Sundance Media Group area (#1852).

The organization is particularly encouraged by the growing number of women represented among this year’s speakers and moderators.

“Commercial UAV Expo has always been one of my favorite places to connect with people in this industry,” said Murphy. “The technology is fascinating, but the conversations between sessions and the relationships you build are just as valuable. I’m excited to see Amelia Dronehart have a presence there and to see more women represented throughout the conference.”

Looking Ahead

For Amelia Dronehart, the website launch is only the beginning.

The organization plans to expand its educational programming, community opportunities, events, and resources while continuing to highlight the work women are doing throughout the drone industry.

Representation remains central to the organization’s mission.

“When younger generations can see women doing this work, they can understand that they are capable of doing it too,” said Murphy. “There are still so many opportunities to bring more women into this industry. If we can help change that ratio through education, encouragement, and representation, then we’re moving in the right direction.”
